Painting & Coating Inspection
In steel structures, proper surface protection is essential not only for aesthetics but for long term durability.
At GMI INSPECTIONS, we conduct inspections of surface treatment processes such as liquid coating, powder coating, galvanizing, and abrasive blasting in accordance with international standards like ISO 12944 and SSPC.
Our inspections begin at surface preparation (cleanliness, roughness, anchor profile) and extend to film thickness measurements, adhesion testing, and defect identification.
Our goal is not only visual appeal but technical quality that ensures lasting protection.
Our coating inspection scope includes:
✔️ Surface preparation checks (cleanliness level, blast profile)
✔️ Dry and wet film thickness measurements
✔️ Visual coating inspection (cracks, blisters, surface defects)
✔️ Specific tests based on coating type (zinc thickness, adhesion test, holiday test)
✔️ Monitoring of environmental conditions (dew point, humidity, surface temperature)
✔️ Post-galvanizing zinc thickness measurement (according to ISO 1461)
✔️ Evaluation of galvanized surface integrity: adhesion, peeling, flaking
✔️ Pre-treatment control before hot-dip galvanizing (surface cleaning, bath temperature & process monitoring)
This isn’t just paint, it’s your protection layer. And we inspect whether it’s doing its job.
For each application, ambient conditions such as dew point, humidity, and surface temperature are measured to ensure environmental suitability. Surface cleanliness is assessed against industry benchmarks like Sa 2½ to ensure proper adhesion.
We also verify coating technical data sheets and manufacturer certificates, and if required, we perform on-site testing such as pull-off adhesion, holiday detection, and other specification based methods.
Our objective is not a coating that just “looks fine,” but one that’s technically sound, specification-compliant, and built to last.
We don’t just inspect the coating ,we verify its protective power.
